Sand, shot, or what for speaker stands?
Just received a pair of Dynaudio Stand 3s for the 140s. Nice workmanship on the stands. And, the look is great with the rosewood. Already the sound has improved, now that they are at the right height.
I've searched the site for what to use for mass, sand, shot or what, but no joy as to what folks have found best. More importantly, the method. I'm not sure I want to just pour stuff in. Just use plastic bags? I know...... Simple question. But, simple minds, etc.

I used bagged sand in my Osiris Audionics stands, and was more than happy with the choice. Don't forget to buy a funnel, too.

I've heard that Kitty Litter has better absorption qualities. This will give you a blacker background and imaging that is unparalleled. Plus it has a nice fresh scent!
 Okay, that's all BS but it is another option for you.

Just be sure that the play sand you use is completely dry. You can be assured if the store you buy it from is storing it outside it is wet.

My local Toys R Us has a bin full of sand bags by the exit, so they're dry and you don't have to carry them very far.

What, you guys haven't heard there is "audiophile grade" sand out there?
 Strategically dug up from the banks of the Po River, of Cremona, Italy vicinity... Filling your stands with the Cremonese audiophile grade sand will enhance the midrange of your speakers and give them that lush Sonus Faber like presentation. Your recorded violins will never sound the same again!  Just like the rumors of the Stradivari using human blood for the stain of their musical instruments, the sand may contain the remains of some of the great talents from a few centuries ago... Well, that's probably far fetched...
