Smile Luxman CL38U-SE

Picked up the preamp today to replace my CJ ET3-SE and wow what a difference. More detail, dynamics and bigger sound stage. The tube phono is dead quiet and livens up the albums. I liked the CJ but it always seem to be restrained. The pace and rhythm are much livelier. Love the bass and treble controls. Also a mono switch and balance control. Love the retro look. Really gets the most out of my Aerial 5T's. Not many of these SE's around only 90 made.

Congrats. Terrific 'retro' looking (and will assume, sounding as well) preamp.

What are you driving those 5Ts with?

Thanks for the picture. I'm driving the 5T's w/a Bryston 2.5 SST2. I use the RCA's for the Luxman and the balanced for the Krell Showcase for movies. Just flip the switch on the amp.

I was hesitant about going to a monitor. But once I demoed them at home they didn't leave. Add the Luxman and I can't think of a better combo for my system. Everything just sound wise came together.

Forte 4A - too bad you are not a subscriber so you can post pic's (or maybe GeAllan70 can tell us how to do so without being a subscriber). Would be interested in seeing the interior of your CL38-SE to compare with a pic of the standard unit.

If you go to the Ken Kessler review of the Cl38U-SE he has an internal photo of the preamp.
