Default Salk Speakers

Has anyone had the opportunity to own or listen to Salk speakers. Looking to add the Soundscape 8 to my short list.

I see nothing but positive reviews online but it's a challenge to audition since they are a factory direct purchase.

Thanks!

If I recall correctly forum member Beatlebum used to own a pair, but has since moved on to Omega Alnicos.

I have a close friend that was a former owner of the Veracity Silk HT3 with custom wiring, exotic Bubinga veneer, etc. It was custom built to order, looked drop dead gorgeous, and sounded great to boot.

However, quality issues soon arose - wood veneers cracking and splitting, etc. I won't go into the details, but customer service was not a highlight and my friend ended up "selling them back" to Salk for a loss as he was not given a full refund. Despite wanting to stay the course and obtain a new pair, he ended up walking away with a sour taste in his mouth and nothing to show for trying to have the situation righted.

Might be a one-off, but it the experience was enough to steer me clear of the brand. Hopefully others have had better luck.

That's sad! So sorry to hear that about your friend.

Thanks for the response.

I owed Salk SS8s for over a year. I upgraded to Revel Salon2s. I was very impressed with the workmanship and sound. The SS8s are a great value and we're bested by the Revels but at a much higher price. I'm looking at buying a pair of wow1 mini desktops for my office at work. Jim Salk is as good as it gets for customer service after the sale. Feel free to pm me with specific questions. Good luck, Pete

I agree with Pete, Jim seems to be one of the good guys in the business and offers tremendous value as well.

Thank You both!

It appears there is someone who has the Veracity HT3 and lives in Staten Island. I might contact him and have a listen.

Hey Paul,

As Big Bill mentioned earlier I did own Salk SS8's previously. I then ventured into Harbeth and ultimately ended up with Omega Super Alnico High Output Monitors (the pics on the Omega website are actually my speakers). Jim Salk was a pleasure to deal with and a true gentleman.

Good luck to you in your search.

Tim

Paul,

There's a big following over @ Audiocircle.com and as a matter of fact Jim has his own 'circle' over there for your reading pleasure.
