SP3 - 4k HDR compatible board?
I was on the phone with Mike over at Bryston today and it sounds like there's a new 4k board in the works. I figured I'd start a thread here so we can poke James for updates on it.
James, when do you think it's going to roll out? I need to upgrade my board, but don't want to do it only to have a new one come out a month later. |

Great news!
Hopefully it comes before the next Oppo.

The current board in the SP-3 is 4K (and has been for a while now) but only one of the inputs (number 8) is 2.2. There is a new board MDS is working on that is 2.2 on all inputs that they say should be ready in the fall but that will require new software so it is still a ways out. It will also have one less input - 7 instead of 8. james |

While I don't love the idea of losing an input, I'd much rather have more than just one 4K input.

Oh, I thought only the one input was 4K!
Isn't HDCP-2.2 pretty much required for any 4K content though?

yeah, 2.2 is a requirement for HDR thus any device with inputs not up to that spec are pretty much useless for 4k content in my opinion. That's the big characteristic of why you go to 4K and get an actual 4K player.
The devices on the market with limited 2.2 inputs/outputs were/are just a stop gap until the full blown hardware becomes available. It's better to offer one in/out than none. |

How many 4k 2.2 HDR televisions will you be using at one time?
