Default Reference system-TONE Pub. review

..indicates that the marantz reference system can be turned on/off(I hope) via a 'data cable'. Can someone tell me what cable that may be? An excerpt below-page 2 of the review.

"..RCA patch cord, so you can at least hook it
up when you get it home, a nice touch. All of
the components can be connected together
via a data cable so that the entire system can
be switched on with a single remote."

Thanks for your help!

Sounds like the "power control" cable McIntosh gear uses. A stereo mini plug daisy chained to control power on/off to all connected components.

It seems odd. I don't really see anywhere in the Marantz manuals other than the floating bus system that, I think, is used for more than one pre/amp. Perhaps a bluetooth system? I cannot find anything that would do this.

Tom.......Looking at the rear panels, I don't see any provisions for a hard wired power control connection.

I concur. That is why I am a bit curious about the review......

Did I read it wrong?

The answer is "SORTA". You will notice two connections labelled FCBS (floating control buss system) on the pre-amp only. This buss system is used to link two pre-amps in an active bi-amp system, each pre-amp becomes mono to drive two amps on each channel. Thus two pre's and four pa's.

It can also be configured for a surround system accommadating a ga-zillion pre's and pa's. You'll also need a seperate processor.

The ID switch is used to set a control address for as many as six pre-amps in bi-amp or multi-channel apps.

Unfortunately it is not intended to turn on/off the other Ref gear (cdp and pa's).

Well, I guess I mis-read the review. No matter since I did not really think this was the case anyway.

My Marantz Reference SC11S1 preamp has two remote trigger outputs, and the matching SM11S1 power amp has a remote trigger input. These connect with a mini jack cable, same as McIntosh uses. When I turn on my preamp the power amp comes on, too.

The SA11S2 disc player doesn't have a remote trigger jack, so I have to turn that on manually.

None of these components power on or off from the remote - you have to use the front panel switch. So all the remote trigger does is to save you from pressing one more power switch. But at least some of the Marantz Reference gear does have remote power connections.

I wonder why they did not include this function on the "top" of the line Ref pieces ???

I read what you read, it seems the review is in error.
