Default Oregon vs Stanford

Go Ducks!

Now the real reason for this thread. We are having folks over to watch the game AND have a chili cook off. I need help! Anyone have a killer recipe? I have some top sirloin for starters. What secrets do you have up your collective sleeves?!

I totally cheat. I use French's Chili-o seasoning packet, browned meat, and red kidney beans. I consistently get rave reviews. Purists will gag upon reading this. Oh well.

I know real chili is meat only, using smoked and/or rubbed beef, but he (and I) have no gear, time or training.

Ducks win! Ducks win!

Chili.

3 lbs sirloin
Big onion
Green pepper
Red pepper
Olive oil
Cumin
Mexican chili powder
Garlic
Salt
Cloves
Tomatoes
Kidney beans
Black beans
Honey
Instant espresso coffee
Mexican chocolate
Chipotle chili

Look on Epicurious for recipe. Excellent. One of the best I've tasted. Needed to be made at least one day in advance though. Would have been even better had it sat for a day.

What do you think? Ducks #4?

After the way the Ducks played, I'll bet that Chili tasted even better! Congrats!

Sure did, thanks!

I highly recommend that recipe. Just keep adding a bit more chili powder until it's the heat you like, then add the coffee and chocolate a little at a time until you get an almost mole flavor, or not. Up to you. I was hoping for leftovers, but the folks liked it so much that I barely got to enjoy it myself.

The Ducks took advantage of a few miscues by an amazingly good Standford team. Those are two darn good teams.

We always coarse grind our meat with fresh Jalapenos, garlic and onion and then sear it. Also we make our own chipotles. I want to try adding the espresso and chocolate the next time we make chili.

Oregon looked very good. Stanford, outside of Luck, looked highly overrated, imo.
