You can always experiment with what you have. In my setups I’ve found inches can make a difference and experimentation is the key. Media cabinets can provide some nice diffusion but the TV itself is a sound reflector.
I would experiment by placing a quilt or heavy blanket on the TV and see what happens to your soundstage. Do the same with the media cabinets just for grins. I’m guessing they will make less of a difference in the soundstage. But you never know. Dan (jdandy) and others have done this experiment and now have very beautiful acoustic art panels covering their tv’s when not in use. I have placed several dipole speakers for friends and they are always a challenge because they need a lot of space away from the front wall. You can experiment with that option as well by pulling the speakers farther out into the room. There is a point at which they will ‘lock’ and the soundstage will get deep and wide.

There's also bringing the couch forward perhaps another 6 inches, as my head's very close to the back wall. Because the system fires across the short dimension (14') I'll need to be careful about how far into the room the couch and speakers are, lest it look wonky. I simply have too much stuff, considering the small space I'm in (a 1BR apartment). The amount of paper is a sheer nightmare, the amount of mail is overwhelming, mainly charitable appeals, various documents, catalogs and magazines. I'm scheduled off this week and plan to do as much damage to the clutter in here as I can, see what I can get rid of. I even have a friend from church coming over on Saturday to help me with my apartment (the living room, anyway). I'd rather that be a visit, not a clean-up. The battle begins today, officially.

I have moved the speakers a bit, pulling them forward about 2" and increased toe-in the same amount, slightly more perhaps. I have played a smattering of BD/DVD clips so far. The center image seems a bit more focused (it was strong already) and floating just in front of the system, as opposed to coming from the TV only; it sounded like both were happening. No obvious increase in depth, however; I need a new room for that.
I take my impressions with a grain of salt, as I hadn't listened to the system since the end of June. There are certain go-to CD tracks I use; those should be next. My setup options are extremely limited so the slight improvement I heard is a plus, if it holds up with more listening. I am considering a Sony OLED, and if I go there and get a 55" one it will allow me to pull the speakers 8" closer; that would have an impact on the image, I'd think. The 65" Sony is as wide as my current TV, so there'd be no change in speaker position (or sound, probably) with the larger set.

According to the Stereophile review 24" stands.

That would get the tweeter 36" off of the ground and he tried higher stands. He's going to have to sit in his normal seating position and get someone to measure from the floor to the center of his ear.

Following the recent NY Audio Show, I was thinking of one last "fling" before retiring, and speakers are one of several avenues of consideration. I was impressed by the Ohm Walsh 2000s I heard at the show, and have been in contact with Ohm. Being used to the bipolar Mirages, the omnidirectional Ohms seem a good move.
Unfortunately, the speaker best suited for me is (as usual, it seems) the most expensive. With tax, the 5000s are $7200, more than I want to spend. The Walsh 5000 carries a frequency range of 26Hz to 20KHz, as does the 4000 at $1K less, but the 5000 is more room-friendly. The 4000 is designed for a much larger space than I have (2850 sq. ft.); it's meant for rooms in the 4500 – 8500 sq. ft. range and would overwhelm my room even at low volumes. If I'm willing to give up some bass the Walsh 2000 and 3000 are viable alternatives (32Hz vs. the 5000's 26Hz). And because of the design I may have placement issues with any of the speakers. They need to "see" each other, but my placement options are limited to how I have my Mirages now, with a TV and 3 equipment racks between, and the speakers out into the room, about 4 ft. from the wall behind them and LP/CD cabinets as diffusion. I might be able to fudge this if the equipment racks are behind the speakers' plane enough, but I moved the system 6" further into the room a while back for rear access; I'd rather not move everything back if I can avoid it. We'll see, but I remember that a a TV, interconnects, power cords, equipment racks, and a turntable are also on the last-fling list. Only one of these, maybe two, would happen. And if speakers are the choice to change there are other brands: Def Tech, Tekton, and whatever else I can find. But the Mirages have spoiled me and I prefer something similar.
