Default Dear manufacturers: “Please contact your dealer for pricing”

Your ad worked. I’m interested....
Every once and a while I’ll come across a new audio product that peaks my interest. One thing that is a complete turn off is when I reach out to a manufacturer about pricing on a new product and they respond “please contact your local dealer.”
SO frustrating to have to chase down simple information. I make it a point now not to even bother with that product/manufacturer. If a manufacturer can’t even share the MSRP of a new product, that’s a huge red flag. Information is power (it’s called the internet). The irony, IF they simply shared the MSRP up front, and the product fits my budget, I would THEN reach out to an authorized dealer to have a listen and eventually purchase. Oh, so you want me to waste my time calling around town to eventually find out I couldn’t afford your product anyways? Not to name names, but the two most recent experiences were PMC and Eggleston. No thanks...I’ll pass. As a manufacturer, if you think you are “driving business” to your brick and mortar dealers, you are wrong....you are just frustrating your potential customer.

Is it just me??? Or is this super frustrating?!? Sorry for the rant....

Agree completely. Why is MSRP a secret. What the dealer sells for requires a conversation with your local dealer.

I don’t understand this either. I know manufacturers have limited resources for direct consumer outreach and so rely on their dealer network. But, really, how hard is it to publish a number?

Agreed ... is it so the dealers can then quote whatever price they want to unsuspecting purchasers. Remember at local stores some percentage of high end purchases are by folks with a lot of money and no real idea about hi end audio. Either way the prices should be published.

Default Lost sale

A few days ago I ordered a new pair of Bryston Model T’s from my dealer. Prior to placing my order, I came a across an ad for the PMC Twentyfive 26i on a social media site. I was intrigued...they looked beautiful and PMC has a great reputation. I responded to the PMC post and they refused to give me the MSRP...”you’ll need to contact your dealer.” I’m pretty sure the PMC 26i is significantly more money than the Bryston Model T (I think???). The thing is, IF the PMC contact would have shared the MSRP with me, I could have evaluated the extra spend and had a conversation with my dealer (who, btw, sells both Bryston and PMC).
Nope. Forget it. They lost a potential sale. I’m not going to beg ANY manufacturer to buy their product. Way too many options out there for great audio.
And yes, I’m excited to get my Bryston Model T’s!

This is the old and outdated model of getting the customer to reach out to a dealer in the hopes of establishing a relationship and letting the salesman talent shine. Come on in, have a listen, can I send you home with one?

Even as an audio dealer; I am 100% in agreement. C’mon man, what’s the big secret.

Everyone knows an audiophile will not let any obstacles stand in the way of his new toy of desire and the money burning a hole in his pocket... Not even the secret veils over the prices...
