I wonder if Mcintosh would re-screen it if you sent it in to their repair dept.

Matias.......You might want to consider dry rub transfer letters. Many art stores and office supply companies have them in different sizes and fonts. Watch this video to get an idea of what can be done.

I’ve never had this happen to any of my McIntosh gear with chrome chassis’s, but I have seen it happen to others. What causes this to happen?

Usually caused by chrome polish/paste(s) over the lettering. In all my stenciled SS McIntosh pieces, I'd polish with Harley Davidson "Harley Bright" chrome cleaner -- but refrain from going over the lettering.

Similar to using window cleaner on the inside of vintage McIntosh dial glass. One spray, one wipe, all gone.

Best Sirs,

Bob

Don't know if you want to go to this extreme, but Yves Beauvais of Vintage Vacuum Audio does a really nice job restoring older style McIntosh amps. His lettering is an epoxy formula very much like the originals. Yves worked for Atlantic records for a number of years, directed their re-issue program and was later running their Jazz labels. If you like check out his web site. There is an extensive interview on stereophile.com from April, 2013. Yves re did a pair of MC 30's for me a few years ago, the lettering is like brand new.
