If you'd like, you can contact us directly and we can get you personalized recommendations, along with 3D renderings of the room showing placements, etc. You can use the form on our website here: Acoustical Room Advice - GIK Acoustics
(The form simply helps us stay organized, but don't be afraid to just send any of us an e-mail at any time if you're so inclined)
Going to fill out the form right now, looking forward to getting this done

I can understand that. This is why I've suggested to test the room if you want a quantifiable analysis. Otherwise, our suggestions are based on the problems you hear (flutter echo and boomy or weak bass are pretty obvious problems), but more involved problems can sometimes be tricky to visualize without testing.

A room analysis from the dimensions and surfaces in the room is done through modeling, but isn't the best way to go about a room if its already been constructed. These are for pre-construction so you can make assumptions about how the room will sound, what the dimensions should be, what treatments need to be employed, etc. Some models can actually be quite accurate, but if the room is already built the best way to go about it is to test the room.

----

Again, if anyone has a microphone handy, I do suggest testing your room! It is much easier to understand why certain songs sound certain ways when you do, and makes it much easier to understand how much treatment you should need.

So I just illustrated how people (me ) don't really understand the process of taming a room.

I agree and it's why I'm moving forward. Submitted the form today and received a e-mail from Glenn Kuras stating my room spec's will be submitted 01/28 and I should hear from Byron sometime early in the week

So I received an e-mail today from Bryon @ GIK, here it is:

Hi Don

Sorry for the delay. The phone has been ringing non-stop the last few days and a bit behind on my emails. I would start with the Tri Traps in the front corners and the 2 monsters behind you for now and evaluate. Later when budget allows, we will then be able to make a better determination of whether you might prefer absorption or diffusion on the side reflection points.

I wanted this to be a completely open learning thread highlighting the process one might go through getting your space treated acoustically. I like their tiered approach trying to keep the overall cost down if possible, something you don't always see from a company when making suggestions about their product, its refreshing. Anyway replied with the following e-mail:

Bryan,
such is the job sometimes. So as I understand it Tri Traps in the corners behind the speakers. I see they are sold in pairs, should I then get two pairs (two for each corner)? As for the Monster Traps how do you suggest these be arranged/mounted. As you can see from the pictures my entry door is in the corner off to one side so if these are to be directly behind my listening position then I cutting off the door. I do see these have legs/stands that can be used. And on any of these pieces what would be the practical advantage of ordering them with the Scatter Plate option?

Regards
Don Battles

Don,

I've got tri-traps in the front corners, 244's at the first reflection points, and 244's in the back corners and right behind me in my small room.

If you'd like to see what it looks like send me a pm and we can arrange a time to meet.
