As usual there is probably no clear cut answer to that question. I'm sure for many it would come down to aesthetics, brand preference/loyalty or even a question of a local dealer who will carry the certain brand and help install/optimize and offer future support as well as company history and future stability. These beasts of speakers weigh much more than any one person can ever handle or care to pack up and send for repair and it becomes an issue of who will service them if there is a problem. At least in my mind that would be a rather important consideration, the future supply or replacement parts and serviceability. Who would want a $150k-$300k speaker if the company closed down and those custom designed drivers are no where to be found?

What they did was take (2) 101e speakers without their sub-woofer cabinets and invert the one on top and attach it to the support so that the are opposed to each other. They then developed stand alone sub woofers cabinets with built in power.

So each side has two woofers, two mids and two tweeters plus the sub woofers.

I have to admit, I've really fallen in love with the Burmester stuff. I've got a 911 mk.3 power amp and the 077 preamp is on the way, using an 011 until the 077 gets here. Very nice combination, very neutral and un solid state sounding.

The nice folks at Burmester are trying to convince me I need their 069 CD player instead of the Naim 555 I'm using now, so we'll see about that...

Did you ever get the 077 and or 069? I know personally IMHO, the Naim 555 w/555ps was Boy Scouts to Burmester 069 w/ps Special Ops. I am curious about 069 pre section vs. 077 pre section.

Not yet. However, having heard the 555 next to the 069 on a few systems I was very familiar with, I wouldn't call the 555 "boy scouts." The 555 is still one of my favorite CD players.

This was a pretty old post, back from the ASL days. They had indeed promised an 077, but that never came to be. I think Harry Pearson STILL has it.
