Default Noise

I have a C-2120 and A-70 and if i use RCA connections i have some back ground noise. But with XLR it is dead quiet.

I have tried with different RCA cables, so it is not the cable.

Is that normal on Accuphase?

Pierre!.......Just stating you have background noise is a bit vague.

What exactly do you mean by background noise. Is it hum, a hiss, a buzzing, crackling noise, or is it merely not as quiet as the balanced interconnects? Can you hear it from your listening position or do you have to be right in front of the speakers to notice?

That is not normal for equipment like Accuphase, I would suggest getting it checked out by a qualified service technician. Is the noise level the same in both channels?

Since the noise goes away when using XLR, and its not the cable, then it could be that something is wrong with the RCA input on the Accuphase or the output jack on the CD player. Try using another input on the Accuphase, aux for example. If the noise is still there, then the output from the CD player is the culprit...

If the noise is not there, then you've narrowed it down to the output of the CD player or the input on the Accuphase.

So, if you have another amp, connect your CD player to that amp and see if the noise is there. If it is, then it's your CD player, if not.. then..*gulp* its the accuphase...

The noise similar to the OP was heard using RCA out from E-450 to P-4200.

The high gain of the P-4200 had to be knocked down two notches and the noise all but disappeared. High gain is there for music as well as the noise . Then the main volume control needs a little more crank to the +ve to compensate. The RCA cable can act as an antenna, just adding to the mix.

If there is hum, it's a classic ground loop with differing potentials between the receiver and the transmitter travelling

XLR kills the noises, since noise is is not "balanced" or lop sided on the two audio + and - lines. Any such rubbish is ignored by the receiver.
