I'm considering both-change pre and buy DG-38. The difference in price between 38 and 58 this days is critical for me.

But as far as I understand you prefer in my situation to stick with old pre and buy DG-58 instead of change pre and buy DG-38?

You told DG-58 is transparent- does it mean that DG-38 colored?

Which way is best to use DG- between source and pre or between pre and power?

I only once listened to a DG-38, and I noticed it introduced a *slight* and I mean *slight* noise that you could hear by putting your ear near the mid cone of the speakers at zero signal level. Detectable at listening position? No. Could I live with that in the long run? No I must say that maybe it was a somewhat faulty unit.
The DG-58 real advantage for me is that it is more user friendly and sports more advanced DSP EQ correction capabilities. It is also completely undetectable on the chain: when EQ is turned off, I tried everything but I could not tell if it was present or not.

I use the DG-58 after the digital sources and before the preamplifier.

If you look at the Accuphase brochure, you have some connection ideas. Accuphase also suggest the DG-58 between the pre and power, but I like not have double AD/DA conversion when all my sources are digital.

The ideal connection would be, in my opinion, with a player (e.g DP-720), DAC (e.g. DC-900) or even a preamplifier (DC-300/330) that has the EXT DSP capability. So you have the EQ in a digital loupe and it is very convenient.
Sadly Accuphase choose to give the DG-58 only 3 digital IN (Optical and Coaxial SPDIF and HS-link), so it cannot serve as a proper digital hub....

In a blind test between a C-2420, a DC-300 and a C-290 done by Barsur here in this forum ( look http://www.audioaficionado.org/accup...-dc-330-a.html ) he, his son and a friend found them indistinguishable.

I am using the Oppo 105 for Tidal and Blurays.
