X3workshop, any further thoughts about your PSE45? I have an inspire 45 SET and PSE with IIPS. Have pretty efficient speakers (used 45 SET for quite a while), thinking about replacing both or at least 45 SET with the PSE45. Curious how itís matured no that youíve had it for a while?
It's my best amp. Full stop. It blows away all my others and the list is long:

McIntosh MC240 x 2 (monobloc'd)
McIntosh MC225
McIntosh MC30's
HK Citation II
Acrosound ULII x 2
Acrosound 20-20
Acrosound Stereo 120
Heathkit UA-2's x 2
Fairchild 255a x 2

Clarity. Nuance. Soundstage. Authority. It has it all.

Time to sell the 45 SET to help fund a 45PSE!

Which speakers are you using them with currently? I love the 45 SET but miss the drive of the PSE with some music (just using kt66, 6v6, 6l6 tube sets). Sounds like the 45 PSE keeps that eerie realistic sound reproduction with more oomph.

Was using it with Altec M19's, but now with Altec M14's w/xover upgrades.

This is the wrong place for this. If you want to sell Sun Valley you should post on their forum.

X3, I can't remember, do you own any of Dennis's pentode, or triode strapped pentode amps ? Or did you go straight for the PSE45?

Recipe for a 45PSE.

1) Take a Gas Voltage Regulated power supply (significantly lower noise floor and better voltage regulation than zener diodes)

2) Blend it with a Parallel Single Ended circuit (lower output impedance and more power)

3) And top it off with your choice of tasty 45 tubes.

Then just serve and enjoy...straitwire...

I like the recipe enough I sent Dennis an email last night. Had spoke to him about 2 years ago when you and Analog built a few. Lost track and then saw X3’s completed amp which turned about beautifully.

Since you popped on I had a few quick questions on how things worked out on the “production” version.

1). How do expect the output tube life to be? Are they being driven hard? Certainly not an infinite supply of vintage 45s running around.
2) Which driver tube family are you using 6sn7 like the pentode PSE or 6sl7 like the 45 SET?
3) Looks like there is still a rectifier. Is it being used in a similar manner as the IIPS in my SEP PSE? Or true rectifier? And which family?
4). How long should the gas regulator tubes last and are they hard to source?

Hey PSE45,

1) The output tubes are not driven hard, you should get years of service out of them.
2) Like most of our amps you can run 6SN7 or 6SL7 input tubes.
3) The amp is tube rectified and doesn't have an IIPS.
4) Voltage regulator tubes last a long time, my (0A3/VR75) are around three years old and they are readily available from many different sellers for as little as $8 apiece in matched sets. I just bought some Russian ones (SG2S) for $2 apiece shipped to my door.

We also build a Pentode version of this amp.

Default Cabin Fever

I may have posted this before, but the wife won't let me out of the house ...so I have too much time on my hands...

I call them Vanity and Pride.
A custom one-off Gas Voltage Regulated LP-3.1 and the prototype Gas Voltage Regulated PSE built on a stripped and reworked 1959 CG Conn organ amp chassis.
Both of these were really fun projects and fulfilled my need to have something special and unique...one of the many perks of working with a great guy like Dennis.
