Your thoughts on this?
I am eyeing this unit. Marantz SA8004. Looks to be a decent DAC too. A poor man's McIntosh MCD500?

I had the 8001. It was a nice sounding unit, smooth/warmish sounding and not the last word in dynamics.

The MCD205 is a keeper. I want to use this with my C2200 & Mc2000 combo. The C50 is paired with my Cary 805 mono block tube amp.
Do you guys think this Marantz is the poor man's MCD500 in performance?

From what I've read here, the Oppo BDP-95 is the poor man's MCD-500.
Are you looking for a soft sounding CDP?

Get yourself a W4S DAC2 to use with your 205 and you have a poor man's MCD1100.

I picked up this a week ago. GREAT player for the money. The digital input is a PLUS and sounds GREAT as well.
