Default Buzzing sound from Ref75

After having the unit on for 4-5 hours I noticed a buzzing sound. Initially I thought it was coming from the speakers or from a input. I turned off the DAC and Ref5, but the buzzing sound was still present and coming from inside the unit.

I turned it off and then back on about 30mins later and the sound was gone.

Anyone experienced this before?

Could it be dust on the tubes making the sound or the tubes themselves?

Cheers

Nick.......Just a guess, but it could be vibration in one of the transformers. Occasionally the laminations in a transformer will buzz when warm. That's the reason McIntosh tar pots its transformers inside their transformer cans. That process eliminates lamination buzz. You can use 3/4" clear plastic tubing, perhaps a four foot piece, like a stethoscope to listen to each transformer and other areas of the amplifier by placing one end of the tube to you ear and move the other end from part to part until you identify the noise source.

Interesting. I will pull it out of the rack and open it up and give it a listen.

Its definitely doing it after a few hours of use and doesn't seem to be affecting the sound quality. Thanks for the tip.

I also experience what I think is a transformer buzz/hum from my Ref75 SE. Some have said some hum is normal. I live with it.

discernible transformer hum is not part of my ARC experience in my last 8 components.

Just had the unit picked up by the ARC rep, the transformer is faulty and needs to be replaced.
