Congrats on the ref 150.
Unfortunately, varnish is necessary for insulation and to minimize transformer buzzing. It does smell pretty bad as it cures but it goes away after a few days of use.

Congrats. The Ref 150 is a great amp. Hard to believe that youhear no difference between ARC and Mac preamps. When I switched from Mac 1000 pre to Ref 5, I heard quite a difference when paired with the Mac 2102 amp. Then when I switched out the Mac amp to a Ref110, the difference was of the same nature, but an order of magnitude greater. May I ask what interconnects you use?

Dan... I have the same Fluke 87, it is a serious meter.

I only have done about 180 hours of burn in on the ref 5se, so that may explain some. In this hot weather it will have to wait till winter. Right now Mac pre-amp is good.

The speaker cables are Synergistic Research Telsa Accelerator, I prefer these over the Nordost Baldur that I also have.

The IC are Nordost Baldur XLR.

PS - Sorry for the late reply.

Source 2 - Avid Acutus SP reference + Thales Reference tone arm + Benz Micro LPS (DS Audio Master 1 broken tip repaired but cost me USD2k. Still having issues - channel imbalance - back to dealer. However, channel issues not withstanding, sounded very very nice. Need to get it back soonest)
