Indeed, for the overall good, just had to take this pain. Seeing McIntosh stuff leaving is never easy, whether they are entry, mid or high level gears! I have to really think hard each time if I am going to let go the painfully amassed Vintage McIntosh bedroom system and many a times, I just said to myself, why do it? I dont need the money and certainly, the only thing bothering me is space and fortunately or unfortunately, more McGears keeps coming in (this I got to learn to stop). I have also learn how to "artistically" turn a deaf ear and a blind eye whenever the subject of me hogging a lot of space at home because of my growing McGears. So, I share your sentiment. BUT when the axe really comes down, we just have to put together the ONE system we have to have and move on. Life is not always what we wanted it to be. Sometimes, it just have to be a compromise. To me, family harmony and peace at home takes priority although deep in me, I could not believe why my hifi system cannot have equal opportunity and importance! Thats life I suppose - mine at least!

Stephen, all those systems are very cool, and probably have given you a better-trained ear and experience that normally would normally take many more years. Sorry to see you "downsize", but in light of your post about your intentions, it's pretty darn cool that you have taken the opportunity to go down several paths at once. Keep us posted on your progress my friend.

Stephen, sorry to hear about the unexpected downsize situation. Hopefully everything will resolve in due time.
Now, if I was setting up a system for a small space and had to worry about neighbors complaining about the noise level, I would probably go for a speaker that sounds dynamic and resolving enough at lower volumes. Not all speakers are like that, most have a sweet spot where they sound great and do require a bit of juice usually to get there. Assuming you can give them some breathing room, the Quad ESL series excels at "late night" and lower volume listening. What better amp to drive the Quads than the 275? With those two, you will be able to enjoy a very musical setup at any level you want except rock concert levels. That would be my first choice. Last edited by PHC1; 04-23-2009 at 01:13 PM. |

Downsize just enough, but no more. My smaller system is something that you could match pretty easily and you will still have a great sounding system. You go to a single stack design to save space, but keeping the MC402 provides you with a lot of power when you can go bigger.
Mine C46/MC402/MCD500/MR85/Sonos Yours C2200/MC402/MCD500/TT/Sonos Good luck with things. Last edited by KMC45; 10-26-2010 at 02:26 PM. |
