Default Denon DVD 3800bdci

Any opinions? It sure seems to be pretty nice, especially at a street price of $1300.

I like the scaling, analog outs and other advanced video features.

It is an excellent unit. One under the A1, which the Mac player is based off of.

Because I know things.

It will be expensive and, as with any other mac component, have great sound quality for any mode you use it for...

I'll hold off on the Denon. There may be good news to come from Apple. Perhaps the ability to rip BR on iTunes. Imagine, a BR movie server.

I've had BD ripping and service capibility for awhile, Mike. And as long as you have a solid Gig-E LAN, you can support multiple streams from a single server (assuming said server has dual Gig-E NIC's).

iTunes is nothing special - and to compress BD is sacrilige. In fact, there are many H.264 versions of BD's out there that fit onto a single layer DVD-R that you can playback in any BD player... But the audio is lossy and the video is compressed.

I don't know.. My first choice is the Denon, but before I was going to go for that one I was going to try another brand first. (and move it to the guest room) Maybe I should not have mentioned them?

Probably.

Right now the best bang for the buck player is the new Panasonic line. DMP-BD60 & DMP-BD80. The 80 has the built in analog 7.1 outs.
