Today my wife and I saw SW The Rise Of Skywalker.

For all its flaws and warts, and there are many, we both enjoyed it immensly.

It brings back some of the vibe and magic of “A New Hope”...but some scenes really should have been left on the cutting room floor.

The revelation is Adam Driver...my word, what a strong and nuanced performance he delivers. His scenes with Daisy Ridley lift this final chapter of the Skywalker saga to a level that makes you forgive all the fluff, filler and MacGuffins from which the movie suffers.

No doubt, Adam Driver carries the film with a silent grace, purpose and determination. How little of his talent was used in TFA and TLJ.

Dare I say...you will care about what happens to Kylo Ren and Rey.

The final scene is a fitting tribute to the magic of “A New Hope”, and it felt like turning the final page of a book that became a companion on a journey of life.

We saw it last night, I agree it was mostly a fun film....it's not gonna win any Academy Awards but overall a good ending to the Skywalker saga. My main beef with this entire situation is that after watching TROS, it blows my mind that Disney didn't have a proper outline for a 3 part saga and had to more or less improvise after what Rian Johnson did to the story. You basically had 3 disjointed movies that fit together but could've been truly epic had there been a
perfectly connecting 3 part saga.

I saw this movie the other day with my kids who are aficionados. They see far more into the movies than I do.

I was thoroughly entertained and thought it was fantastic. I had tears in my eyes.

Agree. Took the family for a Christmas Eve matinee showing. Adam Driver was very good and the film did a good job cleaning up loose ends from the previous installments (per Buck's comments above).

I agree that it’s unthinkable they didn’t have someone to oversee the over arching plot of all 3 movies before they embarked on this project.

That said, I think JJ had a thankless job with the last installment. He had to undo the damage of Last Jedi and still weave a coherent story and end - not just to this trilogy - but close off the Skywalker saga as well.

I have penned down some thoughts on my second viewing - which I enjoyed more than the first.

Massive spoilers involved so I probably won’t post them till more have watched the movie.

Lucas big - or should I say - HUGE mistake was selling the whole Star Wars rights to the mouse without retaining creative story line final say on his original complete last three story plots.

Once the mouse was let loose it was all over. When the BD comes out I’ll buy it as I have all of them going back to, uh, VHS days.

I still have my special edition laser disc box set that came out decades ago.

I think Lucas received (rightfully) a lot of flack for the prequel trilogy and probably wanted to wash his hands off and get a huge pay day.

As a whole I preferred the sequel trilogy to the prequel trilogy. Much much preferred.

It’s pretty much a movie quality vs. story quality if you compare the two. I think the sequels are far and away better movies, but the story of the first three prequels is much much better than what Disney and Co. put together.
