To the audiophile, this $10,000 Ethernet cable apparently makes sense

Here's an interesting take on audiophile's from the minds of ARS Technica:

Pity the audiophile. The term should be an aural counterpart to "cinephile"—as that word means a person who greatly appreciates movies, so "audiophile" should refer to a person who pursues a pure music listening experience. "Audiophile" should properly refer to someone who appreciates listening to music as it was recorded and who isn’t afraid of paying extra for high-quality equipment to chase after a "live" sound.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t. "Audiophile" has become synonymous with "person who spends hundreds of dollars on magic rocks."

To the audiophile, this $10,000 Ethernet cable apparently makes sense

I found Lee Hutchinson's article pretty ignorant; I use this very cable between my Accuphase DP900/DC901 for an HS-Link. It is far superior to the Accuphase cable which was supplied with my units.

The same thing can be written about watches, automobiles, boats, private planes, homes, etc., etc. A Kia will get you to the grocery store and home again the same as a Rolls Royce. They both have four wheels, a motor, and a steering wheel. The luxury level is dramatically different but the value is in the eye of the beholder.

Whatever Lee Hutchinson was paid to scribble his little diatribe, it was at least twice what it is worth. If the price of an item upsets you then you obviously cannot afford it. Move on.

Honestly..I could care less what the sob thinks...if my ears hear the improvements when I switch to a higher priced cable,
..then its worth the extra cost.

Also...to lump all audiophile's together with the lunatics like the poor soul who swallows hook,line and sinker ANYTHING made
by Machina Dynamica, shows just how uninformed and ignorant he is.

Unfortunately that is not how AQ is marketing the cable. If they strictly said "hey this is for HS-Link only and here is why that makes sense..." but no - they are actually blowing the smoke of directionality of Ethernet, irrelevance of network topologies, and a multitude of other nonsense.

1) He's a reviewer by trade.

The $10,000 cable he is alluding to is a 12 meter USB cable. What audiophile would do that? You use CAT 6 between NAS and router and between computer and router. You use the silver USB between the computer and the DAC - the shorter the better. No one would use a 12 meter USB cable for anything.
