And, you can still rip them and keep the discs as a back up.

Yes, I stream my CDs from NAS, but the silver discs are all in storage just in case.

We have Frontier DSL (no cable here), they’ve been “upgrading” the service on our road and I think someone just cut the red wire instead of the green one. They’re so backed up it took two weeks to get a tech on it.

And I thought Century Link was bad. I use my smartphone for backup. Verizon is more reliable than our wired internet service.

Buck - all my original physical digital media is in storage. Copies live on my Synology NAS and stream flawlessly. Let me know if you go down this path - I can help you get started.

Agree. That is what I have done myself. I keep my CDs in the attic.

Folks should be aware that after ripping the CDs, by law an individual is NOT allowed to get rid or sell the discs. If a person sells the CDs and keeps the files, that person is violating copyright laws in the US.

Thanks Tom.......I have two built in CD sized bookcases that I’d have to rip out and fix the wall, so they’ll probably stay unless we move or something.

I did that for my DVDs and I barely got anything back. However, a few months afterward my NAS crashed and I lost everything on it including all the music and video.

I was happy I kept all my CDs but I've lost all of the DVD. At that moment, I regretted getting rid of them. I don't even know what I'm missing.

As, well, vinyl sounds best to my ears in any event and searching out old LPs is part of the fun.
DiscUnion USA may buy them as they buy collections all over the world on behalf of DiscUnion Japan where there is a market for classical. Tons of classical as well as jazz also gets sold on eBay around the world, particularly to/from Asia.

Agree not worth selling; ripping is still a good option. Also keeping them establishes provenance in the 0.001% chance you get asked.
