Streaming this via Tidal, because Qobuz is playing elsewhere in the house (I'm cooking).
Consistent good playing and sound.

The Canadian Gryphon Trio's two-disc set of Schubert's complete music for piano trio features heartfelt performances played with energy and enthusiasm. The Andante con moto from the E flat Trio and the Notturno in E flat major are beautifully sung here with the long legato lines of violinist Annalee Patipatanakoon and cellist Roman Borys flowing over the poised and alert support of pianist Jamie Parker. The strong rhythms and vigorous tempos the players bring to the outer movements of both trios, particularly the Allegro vivace -- Presto that closes the B flat Trio, are particularly successful. Finally, the cogency of the Gryphon Trio's ensemble makes a persuasive case for the enormous length of both works. In sum, if you've never heard any of these standard repertoire works before, the Gryphon Trio's recordings will certainly satisfy. If you've heard some of the classic recordings of the past -- and the Beaux Arts Trio's elegantly lyrical first recording tops the short list -- the Gryphon Trio's recording will perhaps seem less compelling. Recorded in Église St. Benoit de Mirabel in 2006, Analekta's digital sound is clear and direct, but a bit distant.

Playing this into the practice.
This is a very good trio!

Marin Marais - Le Secret de Monsieur Marais
Il Suonar Parlante Orchestra, Vittorio Ghielmi
Luca Pianca, archlute & theorbo
Qobuz 24/96

If you're not familiar with Marin Marais, then this could be the ideal introduction to his music.
If you have listened to other Marais albums, you will recognise most pieces. And you will find them well played. But you will also hear some world premiere recordings.

Between 1680 and 1728, Marin Marais brought the 'pièce de viole' to the peak of perfection. An ‘unremitting’ teacher, he was also the publisher of his own music and invented special signs to notate certain ornaments for the viol. In the course of his research at the Salzburg Mozarteum, the Italian gambist Vittorio Ghielmi studied these manuscript codes, in the hand of Marais himself or his direct students. ‘This led me to a new vision of French Baroque music, which applies not only to the viola da gamba, but also to vocal and orchestral music. These signs reveal the technique of playing in action. Contrary to the static descriptions of the treatises of the time, one has the impression of seeing didactic “videos”’.
This album, entirely devoted to the music of Marais, alternates récits for solo viola with orchestral pieces, all of them reinterpreted in the light of the new discovery of Monsieur Marais’s ‘codes’. In addition to Parisian viols of the time, Vittorio Ghielmi owns an instrument by the famous luthier Michel Colichon (a friend of Marais’s teacher Sainte-Colombe), made in Paris in 1688. Only two of the five surviving viols by Colichon are still in playable condition. © Alpha Classics

Čiurlionis: The Sea; In the Forest; Kestutis
Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Modestas Pitrėnas
Online (2020), via Qobuz

This was on the Presto list of new releases this morning. I hadn’t hear of Ciurlionis, but this is very nice, and good sound.

Thanks for the recommendation. I am listening to it on Qobuz now.
In return, I recommend this:

Gypsy Baroque: Il Suonar Parlante Orchestra, Vittorio Ghielmi
Release Date: 16th Feb 2018
Catalogue No: ALPHA392
Label: Alpha
Length: 58 minutes
It is all delightful but the last track "Mozart the Gypsy & Mozart Sîrba (After Mozart's Violin Concerto in A Major, K. 219)" is a complete rip!!

Thanks Kal.
I saw the album when I looked the other one up.
Will certainly listen.

I bought this CD when it was released:

I've been playing it quite a lot.

Korngold - Violin Concerto - String Sextet
Sinfonia of London Chamber Ensemble
RTÉ Concert Orchestra
, John Wilson
Andrew Haverton, violin
Qobuz 24/48

I knew the Violin Concerto quite well.
But the Sextet was new to me.
It's quite good.

Korngold began work on his Violin Concerto in 1937, following his father’s suggestion that the main theme from his score for the Errol Flynn epic Another Dawn would make a good basis for a concerto. The work remained dormant while Korngold was exiled to Hollywood after the Anschluss. He resumed work on it in 1945, and fully revised it. Premiered by Jascha Heifetz in 1947, the Concerto is widely performed and recorded, and is certainly Korngold’s best-known concert work.
Widely considered the greatest composer-prodigy since Mozart, Korngold composed the String Sextet in 1914, when he was only seventeen years old. It shows his fully developed style and assured idiomatic writing for the ensemble. Andrew Haveron leads the Sinfonia of London Chamber Ensemble in the Sextet, and is joined by John Wilson and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in the Violin Concerto. © Chandos Records

The 24/96 iteration. Works by Chabrier, St. Saens, Debussy, Durufle, Ibert, Massenet, and Ravel. Vigorous readings that remind me of Paray.
