At first, I thought it raised the noise floor but realized the opposite happened and I was just noticing sounds in the recording I never noticed before. As mentioned earlier, I'm also playing a little louder than normal using this setting. The hunt is on for one of the elusive Esoteric 50ohm cables because I'm sticking with the 10MHz out for now.
SuperDave: I did not know Esoteric made (via Acrolink/Mexcel or anyone else) a 50-ohm cable for 10 Mhz. Do you have further details? They seem to be including Van den Hul HDMI cables from what I've heard in the new generation of players and DACs (at least the D-02X) because Mexcel does not offer such things; what brand of cable is this 10 Mhz? Thanks!

Mark... this is it, I was able to buy the last few new ones available. They are no longer manufactured.

Ivan beat me to it. Hopefully you got one too.

Hi Mark, It's Tom ! How's everything audio ? I have 75 to 50 ohm adapters I picked up. They can be purchased for either input or output, which I bought 3 of each to try both ways. There is clearly a difference when the adapters are used, and it was more cable dependent then just whether or not I had the adapter in line or which end I used. I settled on Valhalla 75 ohm cables with the adapter on each end for clock to DACs and adapter on transport 50 ohm in. There $47.00 each and you can use your cables. I'll send you a link on cable impedance and the effect on using the correct input and output. With a clock signal it's not as much of a big deal as it is with signal cables and how manufacturers aren't as careful as you would believe, especially at the cost we are paying! Let me know ,

Yes I picked one up; expect to receive it later on. This is the only one I can find any reference to being 50-ohm (the specific link Ivan gave).

This one, reported in some places to be 50-ohm, is not. It's 75-ohm from what I've just found on Acrolink's website this morning;

Acrolink 7N-D5070

unless they made a 50-ohm variant with the proper connector and conductors. It would have to be labeled differently from the 7N-D5070 on Acrolink's site today to be relied upon as 50-ohm.

Tom,...it's great to hear from you! It's been a long time; we should hook up via phone and catch up soon! How's that uber Esoteric stack treating you???
If you don't still have my number, PM me and I'll give you a call...thanks for the offer of the adapter info, etc...I'll take it! Could make for a very interesting
test with another high-end 75-Ohm BNC:BNC I have here to test the hypothesis that at these lengths, you can do that.

I'm using that cable now and it is 75ohm. I like what I hear but have nothing to compare it to since it's the only bnc I've used. I remember reading good things about the Esoteric 50ohm so I'm interested to hear your impressions. I won't get the 50ohm until Ivan heads back to the Cape. The wait is on.

SuperDave: it turns out the one I'm getting as 2 others beat me to the punch as it turns out, is the Acrolink cousin from a while ago that is no longer published as available but was 50-ohm. The wait is on here too...let's compare notes after the return from the Cape!

Yes, I know the 10MHz BNC connectors are 50 Ohm impedance and I have quality Valhalla v2 75 Ohm cables and I know the experts (Esoteric, SRS) both say it doesn't make a hill of beans difference which impedance cable I use at 10MHz.

Still, I found two inexpensive ($5 ea.) 50 Ohm BNC cables made with RG-58U coaxial cable, in a local electronics supply store. After fumbling around with button pushing coupled with several choice swear words (especially RTFM), the P-02 & D-02 finally sync'd up and I sat back to listen. I used two special ECM light jazz CDs that I find are very well recorded with a mixture of vocals and instrumentals.

I sat back and listened and had a holy ---- moment! I kid you not!! There was more 'life' in these two CDs than I'd heard before. Transients were more distinct, the background seemed to get darker and the whole listening experience was somewhat overwhelming.

If you own a G-01 Clock and you have equipment with 50 Ohm BNC connectors, do yourself a favor and try 10MHz OUT even if it means using inexpensive 50 Ohm cables. I'm willing to venture you won't want to go back to your original settings!!

Ken
Ken,...I know this is an older post on the subject but the above ties with my experience as well. A $25-$35 inexpensive fully 50-ohm cable I had bought beat the performance of a Kubala-Sosna Emotion-level 75-ohm cable, and a 50-ohm Emotion-level cable made with 75-ohm connectors (by mistake). The replacement for the latter arrived and was fully 50-ohm from connector to connector. Whenever I have a 50-ohm cable truly in my system from my Cybershaft 10 Mhz clock to my D-02 DAC, to my ears, and to another audio-nut's impressions having heard the system both ways, be it an inexpensive one or a custom-made one that costs considerably more, it sounds and portrays music better.

Have a great day!
