Stephen
Thanks for the pictures. I'm going to make a visit to my local stereo shop and audition a pair of HiFiMan he400i planar magnetic headphones. These phones are 35ohm and they have a sensitivity of 93db. They should be fairly easy to drive with the headphone stage in my McIntosh c220 preamp. This would only be a temporary solution as I plan on getting a dedicated headphone amp

I've heard the HD650 with the WA3 and they sound great together. The WA3 offers great value. However, the WA6-SE is well worth paying the extra $$$ for, IMO. The WA6-SE is the best headphone amp I have ever heard. Unfortunately, I have not yet had the pleasure of hearing any Schiit amps.

Today I visited mt local audio emporium to audition the HiFiMan HE-400i headphones and an amp. When I came home at 4:30 the 400i's and a Burson Soloist Sl amp came with me Everything I read about the HiFiMan cans was true. They are light, provide a good seal and comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. But most of all, when used with the Burson, the sound is absolutely fantastic. A goodly amount of bass, smooth mids and airy highs. Color me happy

One minor nitpick. The supplied cable is short(a shade under 5 ft). I do have a 15 ft extension cable. I can foresee many late night listening sessions on the horizon

I also tried the Audeze LCD-2 phones. They sounded great, but besides the price, I found them to be too big and too heavy for my head.
