Well, I heard two or three Studers at a couple of shows and that was my observation. Even if you watch some of the Youtube videos with Studers, they sound thin in the mids and lows. I think people who buy Studers are just buying them for the name- Studer.

Dan does Ampex still have any tape that they sell? Off all the tape I used to use they made some of the best and hottest tape you could record on

Looks like Quantegy is still in business and still selling the old Ampex Brand names 406/407---- 456 etc. |

Was not and or is the 456 still the best tape you can get, or is there a better tape?

It was hard to keep all those "HOPS" glued in one place back in the day.
HOP at that time: Highly Orientable Particles. ...amazing I can't remember yesterday, but the term HOP popped into my mind at the mention of sticky-shed. |

It is interesting that KOJ preferred Scotch magnetic tape and talked about in an interview with JGH about how the tape industry had gone for the wrong standards IIRC low noise. Scotch nonetheless had held up pretty well over the years compared to the Ampex tapes that are falling apart and have to be baked before transferring nowadays
