Be sure to obtain the firmware update for the Berkeley. It not only provides MQA rendering but greatly improves on the sound of PCM recordings.

The Alpha DAC Reference Series Field-Installable MQA Rendering Upgrade provides unmatched MQA Rendering capability and significantly improved audio quality with standard PCM, non-MQA recordings for any existing Alpha DAC Reference Series or Alpha DAC Reference Series 2.

The Alpha DAC Reference Series Field-Installable MQA Rendering Upgrade is available directly from Berkeley Audio Design or through your Berkeley Audio Design dealer. The Upgrade is provided as a complete kit sent by FedEx Express and can be installed by an owner or dealer in less than 30 minutes.

To order the Alpha DAC Reference Series Field-Installable MQA Rendering Upgrade please send an email to info@berkeleyaudiodesign.com with the serial number of your Alpha DAC Reference Series or Alpha DAC Reference Series 2. We will respond promptly with ordering and payment information.

Why not the D1100? I'll be in the market for another DAC next year and having owned both McIntosh and Lampizator I'm having a touch decision deciding between the two.
