I have listened to the amp a second time
[QUOTE=Ron-C;117159]MC452 is a powerhouse for sure. After using it many times at RMAF, trainings and now in dealer showrooms, MC452 does move stereo amp performance forward. Lightyear's comments are accurate as to the sound of MC452.
Ron, tell the fellas, nice job. I was in the McIntosh store again over the weekend, and I listened to the MC452 a second time. It was just as exciting as the first time I heard it. This time the store owner and I listened to Mobile Fidelity's remastered version of The Yes Album. In addition to my previous observations, the MC452 managed to provide great clarity among the various intrumental and vocal parts. Some of the music on that album can sound a little congested, such as the passages with the multi-part vocals during I've Seen All Good People. There was no congestion with the MC452. I will be interested to hear what others think, especally folks that have been listening to something other than the MC402 (my current amplifier -- but not for long). |

I am a big fan of 501s and I would make this suggestion. If you buy a pair of 501s on the used market, you have zero risk in terms of resale in case you want to change them to 452s.
Much of my equipment was purchased used as that is a far more cost efficient means for those of use without major deep pockets. McIntosh equipment is legendary for its quality and lifespan, not to mention resale value. My 501 purchased 3 years ago have the same value on the used market, maybe a little more than when I bought them. Although I will say I doubt I will ever sell them, thus confirming my bias towards them. Good luck in your search and Happy Listening !! |

I would also agree with rpcoins. I bought my MC501 amps used also at a great price and I love them. (I just need one more!). Your risk is very low if you get a good deal.
