The 1.2k's were getting pretty long in tooth. I am just guessing that any bump in power to 1.25k was more a way to differentiate the models while updating the internal parts to more up to date standards. As others have indicted a similar change in observed SQ when moving from the 501's to 601's would be welcomed by most. It seems that their industrial design choices on the new 1.25k units has a few individuals scratching their heads.

You think it is like the 601 updates would make sense to me.

Maybe with enough critical reviews they can clean up the looks PLEASE

All that said maybe it is a great unit from a performance standpoint.

I thought so too:

It may have technological audio updates. The MC1.2KW has been around for a while and they probably also need a bit of a marketing tool to sell more units. A "current" unit that has been around as long as the MC1.2KW probably has has sales slow down a lot because it isn't "new."

Agreed. In order to sell, the equipment has to be "new". They could probably do just as well calling it the MC1.2KW MKII in the same fashion as all the MC275 incarnations. Still, MC1.25KW may sound newer to some people than MC1.2KW MK II. Who knows?????

I don't mind the new look I guess they felt the need for a refresh. I still think the 501 with its compact form factor and 3 D glass with Ivan handles are the best looking solid state amp. Mcintosh made.
