The lights on this vintage was a very pleasing light green.

When I bought my CR640, in 1979, I chose it partly because it looked so different than that era's competition, ie marantaz, sansui, LUXMaN, harmon kardon, etc.

Pioneer, and kenwood took the subtle approach like Yamaha. Iirc pioneer was white light and kenwood was a light blue

Thanks, Joe. I did a bit more research into the colors used and, Yup, they were green!

I picked up the JBL 2500 speakers from FedEx yesterday.

They are in great cosmetic and functional condition. I was very pleased with what I saw when I unpacked them. Then I plugged them in...

And WOW! They sound great with that receiver!!! The Minimus 7's just hit the garage sale pile!

The receiver needs a good cleaning as well. Some of the function pots are scratchy so I'm gonna take it to a local shop and let them replace the bulbs, clean the unit and give it the once over.

Michael.......This is great news. Now you have a fine vintage system to enjoy in the garage.

Michael.......Keep us posted on the Yamaha receiver re-lamping and cleaning. It would be great to see a photo of it when she's shining bright again.

Great garage rig. I own both a CR840, and a CR2040 which I really enjoy! I also have owned the CR102, and CR2020. The lamps are not colored and are an easy replacement, other than the tuning dial. Getting it gone over by a tech is a solid idea, that should lead to years of problem free service.
Congrats,
Jim

Dan and Jim,

Thanks for the input and I'll post up some pics before and after so you can see the difference with and without lights.

Here it is...all set up and making beautiful music...my Yamaha CR-620 receiver paired to a minty set of JBL 2500 bookshelf speakers:

Got a little scratchy noise coming from the function selector switch, the loudness knob and the bass/treble controls + the meter lights are MIA so I'll take it down to a local shop and get those things addressed and give it the once over on the test bench.

I like it! I may add one of my extra Sonos Connects and do some streaming in the garage!
