I have my spikes at 3,5mm front and 3mm rear from the floor.
I have tried a few combinations, and that gave the best overall experience in my room. The voice is centered though, as I prefer that. |

footers
I put IsoAcoustic GAIA-1 footers under my Sopra 2s. I have a bamboo floor over an insulated crawl-space. I was using Herbies giant decoupling gliders under the spikes. The IsoAcoustic footers are a major improvement in every way. Worth a try...

I have a pair of Sopra 2s coming to me, hopefully by the end of the week. One concern I have is the spikes: I don't want to ruin my hardwood floors. I asked the dealer about them but he didn't give me a clear answer. I downloaded the manual and it says that four spike pads are provided (I assume for each speaker); will these be sufficient for hardwood floors or should I be looking for another solution?

Steve (Progfan2112), I have the Sopra #3's, hardwood flooring, and I use the Focal supplied metal footers with no complaints. My floors have no scuffles or marks. Enjoy your system!!!

Your Patience Will Pay Off!
I snagged a pair of Sopra No2's when they first came into the U.S., my dealer said to give them something 200 hours of break in, and after doing that, I felt they sounded much better than they did in the showroom.
I had patience to play with the positioning, when done (and these puppies have soundstage like nothing else now), I adjusted the spikes and settled in with my new toys. But one night, after having the Sopra's for about six months, they really seemed to mellow out, I noticed they sounded somewhat "relaxed" compared with when they were new (if you can even call these speakers "relaxed"). I am so smitten with the Focals, no plans to look for something else! Enjoy!

I don't have any experience with stillpoints but I'm sure they are a quality product that would improve the sopra's considerably. However, the price of the stillpoint Ultra SS is about double the price I paid for the IsoAcoustic GAIA-1. The IsoAcoustic GAIA-1 seem to me to improve both the warmth and resolution of my sopra's in my room. Quote:
I noticed similar effect. I've had mine about as long as you. I have been dialing my system in around the focals (carpet change was dramatic) and finally hit a point where the sound relaxed. Wow! |

I've had good success with audio points with my utopias. Would expect the same for the sopras and not super expensive.
