Rogue Audio Apollo Dark tube monoblocks (250W output each) - good match for Revel Salon 2? All the comments I have found are about using mega SS amps for Revel 2. I love the Rogue tube amps. Does anyone have actual experience of having the Rogue Apollo monoblocks driving Revel 2? How well? My listening room is 17 x 16 inches and listen to classical music only. Currently I have Revel F208. If I upgrade, want to go all the way to the top (not something like Revel F228BE). Thanks. Ray

I think the Apollo Dark would be a great match with Salon 2's. I use a Rowland 625 S2 with mine which is 330 watts into 8ohms. Certainly more power is better, but I was recently shocked by trying an ARC Ref 75 SE which I thought would be wimpy, but it sounded great and I never ran out of steam. Don't count out the 228BE......they are superb. Salon2's are going to be a little more extended and smoother. 208/228 has a little more punch.

without question, as someone who used a pair of M180's up against my Studio II's, Mark's Apollo's would be superb ! .....

I feel sort of like an escapee from the kiddie room among this crowd, for I only own a 7.2 Revel Studio system. However, when I purchased it, I concluded that the "best" sound (for me) was using an all Krell system. I use a FPB 200c for the main speakers, a FPB 250c for the center channel, and KAV-250s for the sides and rears. The Sub-30s have their own internal plate amplifiers.

I understand the argument for more power than 200 watts per channel, but I have never actually heard the need; even during the explosions in loud action movies. Regardless, I am utterly delighted with my speaker/amp combination and have never felt the need to upgrade because I was missing "something".

A previous poster showed the studio being significantly more sensitive at 1 meter with 1 watt so 200 wpc might be all you need. I found the v1 ultimas to respond audibly to an amp with a high damping factor.
