Default MT2 Precision Turntable - Thoughts/Impressions

I did a search and was surprised that I couldn't find any posts on the McIntosh MT2 Precision Turntable.

I was watching a couple of unboxing videos on the tube and it seems to have the typical tank like build quality, about as plug ‘n’ play as you can get with a TT and I think it looks cool in an understated way, but still unmistakably Mac.

The price is not bad, though there's a lot of competition in the $4000 range. But I haven't read many reviews, they just don't seem to be out there.

Does anybody know are they making this themselves or using Clearaudio, etc.? It's a belt drive, but it looks like they are using some sort of servo to control the speed.

Interesting product IMO, I hope it does well in the market.

Looks as though there may be an issue with my search function. Just tried to do a couple other searches (which I know there are threads/posts for) and nothing came up for them as well. Sorry if there is already a thread on the MT2.

The two part unboxing videos looked pretty cool. Nice looking packaged deal, but I am wondering if Mc made the tonearm or if it was outsourced to Clear Audio.

It’s on my short list too. Just wish they had kept the green platter that it was first debuted with at one of the audio shows. It looked way better in my opinion. If you google it you’ll find the photos.

Here’s what it was supposed to look like. For some reason Mcintosh debuted it with a green platter and then took it away when it went into production.

On Monday I’ll call McIntosh and try to get some information about this like all over New York companies they’re pretty much closed and working from home. I’ll get a hold of someone and try to get some information and I’m even going to try to get a test unit so I can try to do a review on it and get answers like to the questions you’re asking. To be honest all the reviews I found it been from pompous wine drinking scarf wearing Steffes who don’t know how to speak in layman’s terms. We need someone like us who is not going to use words the length of a mile . Just something planned or English and answer these questions but from my experience in the past 95% of all the products that Macintosh produces have been made in New York or the United States

Costs perhaps? Is acrylic more expensive to make than delrin? Perhaps they thought delrin has better resonance rejection than acrylic. Maybe they decided the higher end model needed to stay uniquely different from the new model. All just speculation here, but you have to wonder what went into that decision making.

A couple of other turntables in the price range are the Technics SL1200G and the Linn LP12 Magik. The Linn is upgradable but I think the upgrades are a bit pricey. Both have a classic look. The Technics are pretty hot right now so resale is great should you want to do so.
