I bought a second hand c2500 and am very happy with it. It looks great, sounds great too! Was concerned about the DAC and other features that the newer C2600 has initially but for the price, I thought no worries.

Mine will be for keeps for a long long time...

I agree what's been said about using an external DAC, have had a separate unit now for about 2 1/2 years. It seems that DACs are improving at a rapid pace, but not so much with preamps, amps and speakers.

As for explaining to your "better half" how you shouldn't need to upgrade, ever, I won't touch that one!
Can you please share what's the difference between the gold lions and stock tubes? how much are they and the normal shelflife?

How do you know when it is time to change out the stock tubes?

I found the Gold Lion's had a little more "warmth", especially with voices and acoustic instruments. The bass also seems more "rounded".

I have a buddy who worked on my hesitance to change to tube equipment, saying that in low power applications (like a preamp) they should last a long time. He said his preamp tubes have nearly eight years on them and don't need replacement.

Though I don't use a turntable, I replaced all six with a set of "matched" ones. If my memory serves me they were just north of $200 or so.

i would have just changed only 2 tubes and leave the other 4 as a backup.

your friend is right, good quality tubes may last 5k hrs to 10k hrs.

Cheers mate!

So the stock tubes should last more than the 3,000 hours my dealer is saying.

Perhaps when it is due for changing, then I will roll it.
