Default Changing tubes in McIntosh C500T

Hi,
I have the top off and was wondering what tubes are located in the middle of the unit, I'm wishing they're the line stage, they seem more accessible
Thanks,
Robert

Robert.......The tubes in the middle of the C500T main circuit board are the phono stage tubes. The line stage tubes are in the window area behind the front glass.

Yes. Easy. With one caveat. There are a few screws you must remove to lift off the metal shroud. Pay close attention to the orientation of the metal shroud. There is only one correct orientation to re-seat the shroud. If you try to put it back on but inadvertently flip it 180 degrees, it will get stuck. Really stuck. Ask me how I know. At that point, only way to remove it is to take the unit apart , glass plate and/or bottom plate. I had to take it to my dealer to perform the surgery. I'm probably one of very few owners who made that mistake. It really is easy as pie to replace the tubes. Just don't do what I did!

I have 2 pairs of matching Telefunken NOS tubes - for total of 4 tubes. Bought them at separate times, so they are not tested for quad-matching. Can I try them? Or should I send all four in to make sure they are quad-matching?
I read you recommend German made GL gold pin tubes. How about the quad matched GL tubes for around $150-180 on eBay? Don't do it, or would they be worth trying ? Thanks.

You do not need matched tubes for the C500T. Unlike some other brands, the circuit McIntosh uses is not sensitive to normal variations in tube performance.
