The SLP-05 is a tremendous preamp. I had this, along with the V12 monoblocks running into Sonus faber Guarneri mementos. One fabulous sounding system.

My only caveat was with the headphone section. I was a bit thin and lacked bass. If you are not going to use it as a headphone amp, then this is a moot point.

Overall, one great product.

What a great system! I especially love your speakers! . I try to tell people they might be small, but they sound BIG!

Mike.......I agree. The SF Guarneri Memento's are wonderful speakers, especially when a subwoofer or two are added. I got the best performance from mine when I used the Bryston 10B Sub active crossover, routing everything below 50 Hz off the GM's to the subs. That combination produced a truly full range experience.

Dan, I completely agree. I have two JL Audio F110's crossed over at 50hz exactly via the CP800. It sounds so big and full. But upstairs in my main listening room with the proper room acoustics and bass traps you helped me with, they just don't need the subs. Bass is phenomenal (now) in the main room.

There is something about a two way speaker. I would love to hear the Evo's. Did you ever get a chance?

Mike

Mike.......I have not auditioned the Evolution or the Futura yet. I have been so happy with the Anniversario's sound and integration into the room since dialing them into the studio with your help that I simply do not have the desire to audition anything new.

I don't want to drift too far off Mark's original post since it is Cary he seeks help with.

Yes, indeed. I think the Cary SLP-05 with the Classe amps and Salon 2 speakers would be excellent. The TAS reviewer even said some tubes in the preamp would be nice with the CA-M600's. I agree.

Thanks! It was quite amazing sounding...when it was working. Those V12 amps were tough to keep going, and it seemed I was always having tube problems. Went from that system to my current McIntosh electronics, and although a bit less warm and voluptuous, the sound is quite wonderful and a LOT more reliable.

I think the Cary SLP-05 is a stellar pre-amp!
