I know some people prefer the sleek look of something like a C47 or C2600 with only the two multifunction knobs. I just wish they had illuminated the volume and balance knobs on the C22.
Given your prefrence for an external DAC, would you consider the C1100 and a D1100 down the line?

They make a heck of a combination...

Love my C22. I appreciate it's blend of wonderful transparency and musicality and superb ergonomics each time I use it. And I use it all the time. The volume and balance are not illuminated, but it isn't something you really notice in practice, even in low lighting. And I would say there's much of a trade-off in terms of speed, detail resolution or even bass with the 22 over the 47 -- both dig pretty deep. Most noticeable difference for me is in the extra spatial depth afforded by the 22, and its way with voices and (especially) string instruments.

Get the C22, it is a C2300 with retro look, loudness control, lesser input. You can replace the stock tubes with some Mullard NOS, especially CV4004 and it will sound fantastic.

It's funny you mention that. I too replaced the stock tubes with the Mullard NOS CV4004. I tried a couple others, including the very dear Telefunken ECC803S, and thought this particular Mullard tube the best.
