Default Ref 150 Amp Questions

At some point I may pick up a Ref 150 to try so have 2 questions:

Is anyone bothered even a little bit by the fan noise?

How's it work/sound with a lower impedence load? Anyone try it on the tweeter/mids or bass panel of Magnepan 3.6s (to be specific)?

Thanks!

The only time I notice the fan noise on my Ref 110 is when I am standing right by the amp. I can barley hear them from the couch and not at all as soon as the music starts. I thought I might be bothered by them, but I am not at all.

Same here with my Ref 110s and I understand the fans in the Ref 150 are even quieter than those in the Ref 110s. As for your question regarding the Ref 150's synergy with a tougher impedance load, my guess is you will be ok as long as we're not talking 2-3ohms consistently across the frquency band or a combination of below 4 ohm load plus negative phase angle load. Can't answer your question specifically as it relates to the Maggie 3.6s, although ARC and Maggies have always been paired up together in audio shows and I believe the folks at magnepan often use ARC to voice their speaker designs but I would lob in questions to both ARC and Magnepan and ask them specifically about that combo. These are two companies that know each other and each others' products very well.

Good luck.

Ref 150 fans are definetly quieter than the 110.Sound of the 150 overcomes the slight fan noise.

The fans are identical on both the Ref 110 and Ref 150. According to ARC the only difference is the intakes were changed from the square perforated opening on the 110 to the circular opening on the Ref 150. Technically it is wind turbulence you hear on the Ref 110 and less of it on the Ref 150.
