Default MP1100 and Rega Apheta 3

I finally upgraded a lot in my setup. I just received today the D1100 and the MP1100 few weeks after the B&W 800 D3.
amazing stuff!!! maybe one day I will also upgrade the 1.2KW with the newer 1.25KW but I am not in a rush!!!

I need your help here with the MP1100.

I just realized today that it is not possible to match the settings of my Apheta 3 that came with my Planar 10 on the MP1100: the capacitance doesn't go over 400pF and the Apheta 3 requirement is 1000pF.
stupid me I didn't check before buying.

anybody suggestion on what to do? im not very expert in cartridge load and capacitance as you can easily understand...

thanks for any tip you can give!!!

How did you make it work with your C1100? As far as I can tell, MP1100 is very similar to C1100’s phono section.

and sounds...great!!!despite the wrong capacitance!!!

I would reach out to Rega directly and ask their opinion.

Default MP1100 and Rega Apheta 3

Don’t forget the capacitance of your phono cable and tonearm wiring is additive to the system, so your total capacitance will be higher. Regardless, I don’t think the capacitance difference will have an audible impact on the Apheta, it tends not to be nearly as important for MC cartridges as for MMs. I have a Rega Aphelion, which also specifies 1000pf, and use a Boulder 508 phonostage that doesn’t have any capacitance adjustment, and it sounds great. As long as you have the right resistance (100 ohms for this cartridge) you should be fine.

No capacitance with my Modwright PH 9.0 but the resistance is set at 100 ohms. I have a Planar 8 and an Apheta 2. Work great.

I understand MP1100 has the same phono stage as the C1100 with the benefit of a dedicated power supply, separate chassis, extra equalization curves and built in (defeatable) ADC. It may be “the same” but only in the similar vein that DAC’s with the same chip sets are the same.

The built in C1100 phono stage is fundamentally different from the MP1100. The MP1100 has different S/N specs and even a different number of tubes per channel. They are both hybrid (tube/solid state) architecture and have the McIntosh house sound but that's where the similarities end. I think both are quite good. Someone who recently compared the two extensively on this forum cited a detail edge to the MP1100.

I said similar, not “same”. Similar as in it has the same R and L values in their settings.
