Optimal seating distance for 4k 65" and 75" tv's ?
My current 55" is on the fritz... So time to shop for a new toy.
I have the new Sony KD-65ZD9 (65") or Sony KD-75ZD9 (75") on my shortlist. When I went to my local dealer to discuss my intentions he made a rather unexpected observation. Apparently some manufacturers ask their dealers to inform customers on the possibility of induced nausea or fatigue when sitting too close to 75" screens, especially when looking at content with subtitles...kind of like sitting in the front rows at a movie theater...one has to constantly move their head position from the center of the image to the bottom and back. The seating distance at my home will be around 4 meters (13 ft) give or take a few centimeters or inches. As I am a complete novice on this subject I would appreciate your insights and hear from your experiences. Thank You Jacques |

I think either will be fine for your seating distance, I dont think 4 meters is close for those sizes at all.
Im getting a 65" soon and I have the same seating distance. I'd go for the 75", but I want a Oled and they are crazy expensive. But perhaps you should go to the dealer and sit 4 meters from a tv of the chosen size, watch some movie with subs and see if its too much? |

I sit approx. 4m from a 123" screen (projector). Perfect distance for that!

Jacques, I'd go for the biggest one, if you can afford it.

@65 inches, the viewing distance shall be 6 feet, 3 inches.
To fully resolve 4K and to exceed the minimum SMPTE viewing angle (at least 7 feet 4 inches). Link reference: TV Size to Distance Calculator and Science @13 feet/4 meters, you'd need at least a 100 inch TV (at this point, a projector) for HD, and going for what bart and thxthx said 123" and/or the biggest you can afford. Next mission is to run the WAF gauntlet as it most probably will become a 75" ;-) |

I have had a few 65" plasmas in my room. I always sit about 8 feet from the screen, and in all cases the experience has been great. I do not think you will have any issues. In fact, if you sit about 14 feet away from the screen I would say go for the 75". I would encourage you to consider an Oled set instead, but the LG 77" model is $25K!

Wish that were true, but I sincerely doubt the TV can be dimmed on a per-single-pixel basis. I'll believe that when I see it! 😀 No LCD can do that. Still, I am sure it will be a great TV, but at those prices I would go with an Oled. I am personally waiting on a Panasonic Oled set before I upgrade my beloved 65VT60.

I have not yet wall mounted our Sony XBR75940D - 75" full array backlit, 4K. It's on a stand in our theater room, and we sit 8 feet from it. I have been in no hurry to finish the wall mount because we are enjoying it as is.
