Example - The reason Japan did not try to invade the US had nothing to do with guns here. You cannot invade a country when you cannot supply your own troops. There was no place to stage for an attack on the US. All of Japan's troops were tied up in China and SE Asia. Once their Navy took the hit at Midway any plans to attack Australia and New Zealand were gone. Looks how long it took for the Allies to invade France. And that was only possible with Germany tied up with the Russia on the east. Why do you think Stalin was so pissed at the US and England, he needed the second front to take Hitler's pressure off him. |

"It was reported that when asked why Japan did not Follow the Pearl Harbor attack with an invasion of the U. S. Mainland, his reply was that he had lived in the U. S. & knew that almost all households had guns."
Is that statement completely made up from "whole cloth"? In other words, completely false? Just asking.

It is far better to be armed and not need it, than to need it and not be armed. Being prepared beats being a victim. It is not shameful to protect yourself and your family with deadly force if necessary. I'd rather be tried by six, than carried by six, any day. I certainly don't need the government's permission to protect my own life.
Ask yourself this. Do you think it's just a visitor dropping by when you hear glass breaking in the middle of the night, and footsteps inside your home? Do you think for a second that dialing 911 will help you at this moment? I'll call 911 alright, to let them know there is a body that needs to be picked up. A home invader at my place will have sealed his fate the moment he steps over the threshold.

I think I side with Jim on this one. Making such a direct of comparison is too simplistic. Nothing is ever that black and white. Lists like that make for an interesting read but nothing I'd want to seriously draw a conclusion from.
Unless the persecuted are armed at all times and always in large groups having guns would be of little benefit. I doubt that when individuals were rounded up that it was a one-on-one situation but, rather, one-on-many. Also, by the time that people are being rounded up many other civil liberties have been stripped away making organized resistance more difficult. I seriously doubt that guns would have prevented the holocaust.

I'm very pro-gun, but I realize that propaganda isn't exclusively in the domain of the anti-gun movement.
If only one person dies because they were not allowed to protect themselves, that's one person too many. Civil liberties are much easier to strip when the populace is facing a loaded gun without having one of their own, that's why some of the posted material bears consideration. I'm not in fear of my government, i've served my country, hell, sometimes I lean so far left I nearly fall over.

I'm definitely pro-gun, but I see so many of these polemical political forwards that infuriate me from people I really like. It saddens me sometimes that we divide ourselves into silly tribes with made up differences.
