Stereophile's Fremer Buys XLF's after reviewing them!
Fremer gives the XLF's a rave review in the January Stereophile, which is not a surprise. But he also put his money where his mouth is (or in this case, his pen) and bought them! This was confirmed in a post by John Atkinson on Audio Asylum.
Even at an accomodation price, the XLF's are a major investment and it says a lot about how he really feels about them. It will be interesting to see how his reviews change based on such a state of the art reference speaker.

I'm sure he got a HUGE discount, just like some other gear, cables,... he has.

Doesn't really matter, as he could a huge discount on ANYTHING he would like to buy for his living room. When you can get a discount on everything, then the discount itself stops beeing a factor in your buying decision process.

If the XLFs are going into his "usual" listening room, I am surprised that such a large speaker would work well. It is a bit tight in his room and he sits rather close to speakers.

-- He has been living with those for quite a while; he didn't have the choice but to purchase them (just too much problem to carry them out of his small room).
His TT ($160,000) no problemo, doesn't take too much space. ...And anyway, he has to have the best on that one. Last edited by LordoftheRingsEE; 12-17-2012 at 11:25 PM. |
