The unity gain of the mcd550 should be 70% or 8o%, if you are using variable output. Just FYI.

I would adjust the amp volume around the unity gain of the CD player, to prevent any overloading- or distortion.

Marmarosa.......The MCD550 owner's manual states that when the volume is set to 76% the variable output level is equal to the fixed output level. Operating the variable output at a higher lever may put you at risk of over driving the input on a preamplifier or a power amplifier. Personally, I would not operate the MCD550 at 100% volume and certainly no higher than 80%. I prefer using fixed outputs unless you are driving the power amplifier directly.

Dan the variable output of the d100 is equal to 76% of the fix one to ?
