Pider is correct, WASAPI-Event Mode is the output you desire for bit-perfect.

Also - DSP studio = AVOID. "Digital Signal Processing" = you are messing with the bits.

**edit: ASIO is also considered bit-perfect, just as fyi.

If on a older PC in Dan's case or running XP his settings is fine. However thanks you guys for all this info. Not sure what Dan has for hardware?

I was running hardware direct on a win7 pro laptop and no output choice, making the change to WASAPI-Event has eliminated all drop outs I was getting at times playing 192 and 96 files.

That said my WW silver cable is on order and I only have a typical el cheapo belkin 15 footer...
thank you

Dave.......The Sony Vaio laptop is relatively new, with i7 processor, 500GB hard drive (7200 rpm), 8GB RAM, Windows 7 (64bit) operating system. The laptop is performing perfectly.

Last night Ivan convinced me that a Wireworld Platinum USB cable was the way to go, so I am excited to say a 3 meter Platinum USB cable is on the way. It may take a little longer to arrive than normal since Wireworld is slammed with orders and working 7 days a week to ramp up production. They are still barley keeping up with orders.

I kept the high-res music playing from the laptop until after midnight last night, and it has been playing again today since noon. Sounds very good on the living room system, but can't wait to hear the WW Platinum USB cable.

Dan, good move! I too am in the queue awaiting a WW Platinum USB cable 1.5 meter length. Ivan is keeping WW busy. I will also try it out directly into the MCD1100 however the principle duty will be delivering bits to Berkeley Audio USB/AES converter from a still to be determined Apple computer --- likely Mac Mini with Pure Music or Audirvana+. The Berkeley Alpha USB will pass bits to the MCD1100 via Transparent Reference AES 1.5 meter cable. I can't wait to hear the set up. I am expecting a significant improvement over my current server solution, Bryston BDP-1 and same AES cable into MCD1100. It better sound better or else I just blew a lot of dough!!!

You may want to look at this thread before going with a mac mini.

Apart from which the best USB cable to be used, I am interested in finding out which audio setting in JRiver mc should we use to optimize overall audio performance with those downloaded hd tracks.

Recently heard about "JPlay" (different from Jplayer) from my friend. With this program add-on and integrating it with JRiver MC, tracks will be copied to RAMs first and play from RAMs instead rather than from moving Hard disk. This is what I am doing and hope to share more with you guys.

[Review] JPlay - computer-audio software - [English]

I have watched every keystroke of that thread
I thought long and hard on it. I just can't do windows. Too many potential frustrations. Mac works for me. I have faith in the Berkeley Audio folks. I believe the BADA USB will significantly elevate the performance of Mac Mini or iMac or MacBook Pro as a music server. Plus, I will likely use whichever Apple computer for other light duty general computer work when not listening to my system. I think it will be a win-win.

It's all good. Mac or PC. Who cares. Stay with what works for you. I get frustrated with the PC's endless options sometimes, but I've been dealing with that beast since they first were introduced, so it's familiar territory. You want to get to the music in a way that feels good and does not frustrate, that's for sure!
