I wasn't aware of these news. I'm thrilled. If indeed, as Dan says, the BDP-1095 has digital inputs and NO fan, I'm sold. I'm sure they will either incorporate the same Sabre DAC from the BDP-95 or an even better one. It seems the digital inputs (including a second USB one) and 4K (which, I I agree, are pointless for now) are the mayor differences. Once again, Oppo LISTENS to its costumers. This looks like a dream machine to me.

They probably also upgraded the user interface and, fingers crossed, one can now navigate the contents of a drive via the front display. If so, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

They may be a little slow, but yes, they do.

What are the odds of implementing a digital input to your next generation BDP players so they can also serve as an external DAC? This would make a nice all in one machine for those who use their PC/MAC as a music server.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Unfortunately we have no plans on creating a player which offers any video or audio inputs.

The Oppo BDP-103 and BDP-105 come with a new remote which now includes dedicated buttons for Netflix and Vudu. The BDP-105 will also include a headphone amplifier.

Looks very interesting. I may upgrade if it sounds better than the 95.

I am also interested in how the absence of a cooling fan will play out for reliability. It seems there is still a cooling fan in the BDP-103.

I spoke to the nice folks at Oppo today. Unfortunately, they revealed a couple of discouraging news regarding the BDP-105 (at least for the type of use I would give it):

Once again, just like in the BDP-95:
- no front panel display browsing. One still needs to use an external monitor or TV to browse through the contents of a hard drive or USB stick.
- no AIFF nor ALAC compatibility (half my collection is in this format... about 1TB worh of it!)

BUT... they did mention that they are working on a remote app for Apple and Android devices. Hopefully this will eliminate the need of an external monitor. They did not say when they expect this to be ready, but it seems it's been in the works for quite a while...

By the way, perhaps it's time we start a separate thread for these new players?

Esteban.......A display on the face would be so small it would be useless from your seat. I would not want to have to approach the player to look at the screen. iPad and Android apps would be super. No support for AIFF or ALAC is a non-issue for me, although I can see where it would be inconvienient for those with a large library of those type files. For me, it will have to slay the performance of the BDP-95 before I'll jump.
