DT.......My experience with the Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition has been fantastic. Things are even better now that I performed the 5.1 audio calibration using the AIX Records Audio Calibration disc. The Surround sound system is dialed in perfectly, and is thrilling me every time I listen to it. Just this morning I was in the studio listening to the Oppo SE with the multichannel SACD Spyro Gyra - The Deep End. This SACD is recorded perfectly, and mixed for surround in an amazing manner. I can't seem to get enough of listening to it, and recommend this SACD to everyone.

The Oppo BDP-83SE continues to blow my mind in surround sound. The sonic details, dynamic range, awesome signal to noise ratio, complete seperation of channels, and its excellent sound stage are intoxicating. The Oppo SE continues to grow on me each time I hear it. The performance level of this player far exceeds its selling price. I could not be happier with mine. Now I am on the hunt for all the multichannel SACD's I can find of music I enjoy. I am a happy Oppo BDP-83SE owner, and can easily recommend this player to anyone, no matter what level your system might be. The Oppo BDP-83SE is that good.

I am happy to read that you are using your new MX120 more, it is a very musical pre amp/surround sound processor. Maybe you could start a thread listing some of the multichannel music discs that you have ?

Better hurry. I bet the price won't hold for long.

I will second Dan on this assessment. In two channel, it is very close to my Perpetual Technologies P-3A DAC with extensive Empirical Audio mods ($2700). High def audio on Bluray sounds awesome.

I bought mine from Ron at Liquid Hifi and he had a pretty nice deal and he is a member on AA. You may want to PM him to compare deals. Cheers.

The MX120 won't interfere with the video processing of the BDP-83. I would say that if you have a projector or even a plasma 50" or larger that the 83 would be easily worth the extra $$ over the 80 from a video standpoint, plus the 83 looks to have a lot better build quality.

I agree with all the posts about the SE. I did notice one thing today.
I was playing a Metalica CD ( the Black One). On track 3 or 4 and again on track 10 it started to skip. It was clean no marks. I played it on a Sony W2000ES and no skips.
I was playing it fairly loud. I have a pair of Jubilees biamped with 2 MC252's and noticed on the low end it was hitting25 watts. When played at a little lower level it was fine.
Any thoughts....
