Default C2500 software update

I was at my dealer yesterday and I noticed he was updating a C50.

He also mentioned that since my C2500 was one of the first to come out, that there was possibly an update to the C2500.

Anyone know what this is and what is updated?

Thanks.

AM123.......It is a bit amusing that your dealer would tell you that there was "possibly" an update for the C2500. It would seem to me that he would be the one to confirm this. As for what gets updated, that always seems to remain a guarded secret with McIntosh. They issue updates with little or no explanation of what is being changed. In this respect I wish McIntosh were more like Oppo. When Oppo issues an update they post a full explanation of what is being upgraded, repaired bugs, etc. I wish McIntosh would follow their lead.

There's a better chance of finding out what happened to Jimmy Hoffa than McIntosh telling us what a firmware upgrade actually does

I have found Mc to be responsive regarding firmware when you email them, though. They likely won't tell you what the update does, but if you say mine is running 1.02 is there something newer, they'll let you know. I agree w/Dan and we've discussed this multiple other times here so I'll be gentle to the dead horse, but Mc is really behind the times when it comes to notification of firmware upgrades.

Agree on all points. I believe they don't publicize the availability and contents of updates to prevent satisfied users from updating because there is an update available. I am guilty of this.

Detailing the changes in an update would get many owners to update even if they are not experiencing the issue(s) addressed in the update.

I don't agree with keeping everything secret, but it probably has prevented some units from being bricked and the resulting angry customers.

Jim.......I don't agree. If a software update is made available for a particular McIntosh component then it should be made available to all. McIntosh is so far behind the curve when it comes to implementation of the latest digital technology. Here again is where Oppo outshines McIntosh with respect to updates. All McIntosh needs to do is design a circuit that would allow automatic updates to be downloaded from the Internet through a home network connection, either Ethernet, WiFi connection, or a USB thumb drive with the update installed. The user would not be required to do anything with an Ethernet or WiFi connection other than to accept the update or not when prompted by the front panel display on start up, either "yes" or "no". Oppo implemented this digital download update feature years ago. So should have McIntosh.

It does appear there is an update to the USB driver.

McIntosh | Get McIntosh Product Support Manuals & Downloads

Select Pre and then C2500.

Can anyone let me know what this posted update does?

Thanks.

That's just a USB Driver for Windows. Nothing to do with the C2500 itself or its firmware.
