Some of these DL's are now hosting on Sirius Radio's Classic Vinyl from the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame

In Auckland:

In the 70's it was Radio Hauraki.

In the 80's it was 1ZM.

In the 90's it was Radio B FM (Auckland University Radio Station),

in the 2000's it's 'The Rock'.

In London in the 80's:

BBC Radio 1 with the Legendary John Peel.

In Australia:

Triple M.

I just heard a rock station I listed to since the middle 1960s is going off the air. WPLJ has been broadcasting to the NY-NJ-CT tristate area. WPLJ 95.5 FM (previously WABC-FM) will have its final broadcast May 31st.

This is yet one more reason FM radio has become a wasteland.

I don't need or want any ethnic, religious or other non-music stations cluttering the FM dial.

It's no wonder I don't listen to the radio any more.

As an undergrad at Penn WMMR was the rock station of choice. Back then, WRTI was 100% jazz and WFLN, an equally good classical station. Unfortunately, the folks who listened to classical had far more $$ than those who listened to jazz and they "merged" (almost at gun-point) the classical format into WRTI in 1997. The upside is the programming on WRTI in its 12hr/12hr classical/jazz format is about as good as it gets, as is the audio quality of its broadcasts. WMMR is, however, a sad parody of its former self as it has gone the way of the majority of radio. When congress changed the rules to allow consolidation of media outlets (radio, newspapers, TV, etc.) they fostered the downfall of so much once excellent media. Unfortunately, for congress (on all sides of the aisle) it is all about how much $$ they can stuff into their pockets.
