Yes, always open to suggestions outside of my limited scope of knowledge of classical.

Jim, remind me never to discuss music with you again.

Just kidding, it’s all good, we all have our taste and preference.

It would be frustrating for me to just listen to pop / rock music from the past decade.

Here you go, Serge .

This is a list of top classical discs I put together for another thread based on music + performance + sound criteria.

First Set

Second Set

Looking back, I think the first step in your journey should be this superlative 14-disc Beethoven box set which includes most of the orchestral music written by LvB.

Quote:
Harnoncourt - Beethoven
Gidon Kremer & Pierre-Laurent Aimard
Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Nikolaus Harnoncourt

This Teldec set is magnificent. I cannot find any weak links here and these are some of the most exciting Beethoven symphony recordings anywhere. In my view, the combination of this composed music, the orchestral sound it yields, the superb recorded sound and its playback on my system is a triumph of humanity. Don't miss this Harnoncourt set. An excellent alternative period instrument set is by Jos van Immerseel and Anima Eterna.

Thank you Carlos. I will be sure to give this a thorough try to see where this takes me.
