Default Easy Street Records Seattle WA

I was at East Street Records today in West Seattle. They sell new and used CDs, Albums, Movies, Shirts and other misc. sundries. They also bring in live music and sell food, beer and wine - it really is a cool place.

This is what I believe is the future of hard sales, as big box and corporate for that matter never really understood music other then from a financial point. My hunch is the industry will remain and operate more like a cottage industry, so no sweating isolated and integrated transports and disc players.

What’s in your Town?

Be cool. Listen to the music!

Looks like a cool shop. All we have is places with a few racks. In the cities there are some exceptions but nothing even close to that joint!

Looks like a great shop, I’ll have to get over there some day.

Ed - We have a similar record store in Atlanta, shop called Criminal Records. They don’t serve food or drink but they do bring in local bands for concerts and live music. Excellent store, they have a huge selection of new LPs along with used CDs and Vinyl and a large comics section too. If I’m not mistaken the owner of Criminal was one of the people who founded Record Store day in the U.S.

I think alcohol like beer wine and champagne is the key for a brick and mortar store. Looks like a nice and yet fun place... thanks for sharing

I'm also a fan of DecaturCD which, despite the name, has a great selection of vinyl. I live in Decatur, so it's about 3 blocks from my house. I spend way too much time (and money) there on the weekends. They'll get me anything I can get online and match the price (although I rarely ask them to do so, as I consider any overage almost a contribution to the institution). I don't pay shipping, but I do pay taxes, so it just about nets out.

I agree with the OP that "boutiques" are all that will survive, and not many of those and not sure for how long. I suspect that DecaturCD will go by the wayside when their lease is up. I love these stores though (much like my stick shift car ...).

We live in a small mountain town. Three bike shops, a lot of boutique shopping, and a record/art store that is, as we say, not deeply stocked.

Locally there is a decent record/cd store selling new & used LP's/CD's which used to be near the university; but, moved a couple years ago. I had been to the "old" location many times; but, haven't made it to the new location.

However, my joy is a record store approximately 50 miles away which is 3,200 sq feet and has been around for years (Remember When Records). I've visited many times on the way to the in-laws which makes it convenient. The State Magazine has an article on his store back in 2010 mentioning the stores 150,000 albums/CD's/singles, and DVD's (40-50K in rock albums alone & another couple hundred thousand in two warehouses).

You want a copy of Chocolate Buttermilk Band -- John has it. You want a sealed, single digit numbered copy of the Beatles White Album -- John has it (or did).

He carries quality & very high quality used records (and CD's-- MFSL, DCC, MCA, CHESS, etc.) . It's hard to spend less than 3-4 hours in his store.

My last album I bought from his store was a MINT 1970 copy of the Who, Live at Leeds, Polydor.

Best Sirs,

Bob
